Late Spring, 2026

We took a walk this morning and, at the end of a long, narrow trail through woods that were very not accommodating to Blob’s stroller, I found the biggest troop (had to look this word up) of edible mushrooms I’ve ever seen in the wild. A veritable sea of golden oysters.

This was just one cluster. The best looking one, of course, and not the one I took with me. Nearby was a log that had maybe 5-10 times as much. I sautéed the ones I collected with wild garlic I picked from nearby, butter, soy sauce, spinach, and greens from the farmer’s market.

There was also a retention pond packed with ducks and a deer that let us get pretty close.

Later, we walked through Matthaei and, barely any way down the trail, I spotted a stump that was covered in even more golden oysters! I legally have to say that I didn’t take any with me but, man, I’ve been savoring some delicious mushroom flavor today.

Here’s a small gallery of B&W shots I took over the last week or so, featuring some of the wife at Matthaei, too.
